Overview
This new program is designed to be the core of "Tokyo Tokyo FESTIVAL", an art and cultural festival that enlivens Tokyo, where the Olympics and Paralympics are to be held.
It sprung from the idea of making the world's largest public art installation in Tokyo in the summer of 2021.
With the games focusing peoples attention from all over Japan and around the world, it is designed as a symbol of the message FESTIVAL.
This project re-envisioned the walls of the Marunouchi Building and Shin-Marunouchi Building as a diptych of canvases with two huge murals entitled “aqua” and “ignis,” each around 150 m high and 35 m wide.
Inspired by water and fire, these works by world-famous artists Tadanori and Mimi Yokoo emanated tremendous presence and served as a cultural monument unique in format, time, and place alike.
