Overview
To celebrate the grand opening of the main building of the Daimaru Shinsaibashi Store, we planned a multi-year events project to involve the entire city in enlivening the city of Osaka through design. For the first year of the project, the “OSAKA x MILANO DESIGN LINK 2019” was held in partnership with the world’s largest design festival, the “Milan Fuorisalone,” held every April in Milan, Italy—a sister city of Osaka.
Notable works selected from that year’s Fuorisalone and new works created by world-famous designers inspired by Osaka were displayed in the main building of the Daimaru Shinsaibashi Store, as well as around the Shinsaibashi area (a major shopping district in Osaka). In addition, works by Japanese companies returning home after successfully exhibiting at Fuorisalone and original works by young artists active in the Kansai region were featured. A total of 23 works were displayed, adding vibrance to Shinsaibashi, Osaka.
